Note: As a general rule, copies of the documents should be provided, and the originals should be presented at the time of submitting the application.
If you are a student, you must provide:
- Enrollment certificate from a public or private educational institution recognized or funded by the competent educational administration.
- Documentation proving public or private health insurance. You can provide a European Health Insurance Card with validity covering the residency period, allowing you to receive necessary medical services from a medical perspective, considering the nature of the services and the expected duration.
- A sworn statement that you possess sufficient resources for yourself and your family for the residency period in Spain. Presentation of documentary evidence of participation in a European Union program that promotes educational exchange for students and teachers will be considered sufficient to meet these requirements.
If you are an employed worker, you can provide any of the following documents:
- Employer's hiring declaration or employment certificate, including at least the company's name and address, fiscal identification, and contribution account code.
- Employment contract registered with the Public Employment Service, or communication of the hiring and its conditions through the CONTRAT@ platform.
- Document of enrollment or a situation similar to enrollment in the corresponding Social Security scheme or consent for the verification of data in the files of the General Treasury of Social Security.
If you are a self-employed worker, you can provide any of the following documents:
- Registration in the Census of Economic Activities.
- Justification of establishment through registration in the Commercial Registry.
- Document of enrollment or a situation similar to enrollment in the corresponding Social Security scheme, or consent for the verification of data in the files of the General Treasury of Social Security or the Tax Agency.
If you are not engaged in work activities in Spain, you must provide:
- Documentary evidence of having public or private health insurance, contracted in Spain or another country, provided that it offers coverage in Spain during your residency period equivalent to that provided by the national health system. Pensioners fulfill this requirement by providing certification of receiving healthcare covered by the state from which they receive their pension.
- Documentation proving sufficient resources for yourself and your family for the residency period in Spain. This can be proven through any legally acceptable means of evidence, such as property titles, certified checks, documentation proving capital income, or credit cards with bank certification indicating the available credit on the card.
If you are a family member of a Union citizen, you must provide:
- Documentary evidence, if applicable, legalized, of the family relationship with the Union citizen.
- Documentation proving economic dependence.
- Documentation proving that the family member providing the right is either an employed or self-employed worker, or has sufficient means of support and health insurance, or is a student with sufficient means for themselves and their family members and health insurance. Important
Note: When submitting documents from other countries, they must be translated into Spanish or the co-official language of the territory where the application is being submitted.
For standard forms of the European Union, neither their translation nor their legalization will be necessary in accordance with the provisions of the community regulations that support them. For example: healthcare assistance models S1, E109, E 121...
On the other hand, all foreign public documents must be previously legalized by the Spanish Consular Office with jurisdiction in the country where the document was issued or, if applicable, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, except in cases where the document has been apostilled by the competent authority of the issuing country under the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961, and unless the document is exempt from legalization under an International Convention.
